Moving Into Work

Quote.png

The Need
Almost one million 16 to 24-year-olds are currently out of work in the UK. Over 200,000 young people have been looking for work for a year or more.
Even before the recession, approximately seven to nine per cent of all young people were headed for long-term worklessness from the age of 16. This core issue is known as 'structural' youth unemployment, and is most endemic within disadvantaged areas of the country, and the 'hardest to reach' groups of young people.

Our Programme
Street Step uses a combined dance fitness and employability programme to enable young people to achieve their potential. Participants can take part in weekly dance and fitness classes, build their confidence, make social connections, have fun, and improve their health. Before every class we come together at the Social. Have a cup of tea, meet staff and learn about our programme, chat with other participants, and take part in one-to-one and group workshops.

The Street Step Academy is inspired by Street League's award-winning employability programme. We want every participant to achieve their potential and broaden their aspirations. Street Step supports each young person to overcome the barriers they face. We work with every participant until they get into work, education, or training and support them to sustain these.
We are committed to ending structural youth unemployment. This means we need to ensure young people are getting jobs that meet their needs. Step Up, our in-work support programme, helps young people for at least the first six months.
One of Street Step's values is that we are honest. We are committed to transparency: monitoring, evaluating and sharing our work.
